Across the Western Pacific Region, a growing number of stakeholders—including technology companies, healthcare providers, academic institutions, and governments—are actively exploring and piloting artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in healthcare settings. These initiatives span a range of applications, from diagnostic support and clinical decision-making to administrative efficiencies and public health surveillance. While the integration of AI into health systems remains in its early stages, there is increasing recognition of the need to prepare the health workforce to engage critically and competently with these technologies. To support evidence-informed policy and capacity development, WPRO is commissioning this rapid review to synthesize current AI training initiatives for healthcare professionals in the region. The review will map existing efforts, assess their quality and relevance, and identify gaps and opportunities to guide future investments in workforce readiness for AI-supported health systems.
