Purpose of the Request: The Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) is seeking information on comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research tools to provide independent third-party analysis on the ESG factors towards investment process. The research tools will impact on the OIM’s investment performance and processes and improve systematic risk intelligence gathering for compliance and measure the sustainability of the Fund’s assets, and will be used for investment decisions and related reports and other communications with the various stakeholders such as the Fund’s governing bodies and participants and beneficiaries of the Fund. OIM expects that an independent third party, ESG research tools, will enable OIM to make better informed investment decisions as well as contribute to the objectives of the UN as a whole, including the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overview of the UNJSPF: The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (“UNJSPF” or “the Fund”) was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations ("UN") to provide retirement, death, disability and related benefits for the staff of the UN and other international intergovernmental organizations admitted to membership in the Fund. The United Nations Secretary-General has the fiduciary responsible for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF. The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG is, in turn, assisted in this function by the Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the UNJSPF. All investments made, at the time of the purchase, must meet the criteria of safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility endorsed by the General Assembly and the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board (“UNJSPB”). OIM utilizes the services of various global, regional and national trading counterparties. The UNJSPF is an internally managed fund, with a total market value of approximately $98.5 billion as of 31 May 2025, invested in both publicly traded securities as well as private capital investments (private equity, private debt and real assets), across geographies and industries. Specific Requirements/Information The ESG research tool being searched for by OIM must meet all the following requirements: (i) Screening tool – Identifies companies with ties to specific restriction categories with Global coverage, delivery methods: Tobacco, Defense / weapons, and fossil fuels (ii) ESG controversies monitoring tool identifies significant corporate social and environmental impacts, including major controversies and violations of global ESG-related norms and conventions, such as the United Nations Global Compact. (iii) ESG Ratings provides industry specific ESG company ratings, scores and analysis of corporate management of environmental, social and governance risk factors and includes industry sector reports, company profiles and thematic research. (iv) Ability to integrate ESG screening in our benchmark (v) Carbon metric to evaluate companies for greenhouse gas emissions and ownership of fossil fuel reserves. Please note that UNJSPF/OIM, through UN Procurement Division, may require that the companies responding to this RFI provide an in-person and a detailed live presentation and demonstration using assignments provided by PD accompanied by in-person presentation on the capabilities of their system within 30 days from closure of the RFI.
