Provision of Eco-Friendly Community Reintegration Projects in the Upper West and Bono Regions of Ghana.

ProcureProcess - IOM Others Non Governmental 2025-05-08 to 2025-05-20
Ghana plays a crucial role in West African migration, serving as a country of origin, transit, and destination. As a member of ECOWAS, it benefits from free movement protocols and serves as a key hub along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor. However, economic challenges, particularly high youth unemployment, push many Ghanaians to seek opportunities abroad, often through irregular migration and human smuggling. The rising trend of irregular migration to Europe is largely driven by poverty and limited local opportunities. Many migrants are unaware of legal migration pathways, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. In response to reports of abuse among Ghanaian domestic workers, the government imposed a ban on labor migration to Gulf States in 2017. However, this restriction has pushed recruitment underground, increasing the risks faced by migrant workers.
