The study will examine both substantive and procedural environmental rights—such as the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, and principles of access to information, participation, and justice—while assessing legal and policy frameworks at national and regional levels, including National Biodiversity Strategies and National Adaptation Plans. It will also evaluate enforcement capacities and stakeholder roles, including those of civil society, environmental defenders, and justice institutions. Applying an intersectional lens, the study will highlight how overlapping social, economic, and geographic inequalities shape disproportionate environmental harms and justice barriers for Indigenous peoples, women, youth, and other marginalized groups.
