IOM conducts and supports research to enhance IOM's programme delivery and contribute to a broader understanding of migration patterns and processes, as well as the links between migration research and migration policy and practice. Research also feeds directly into IOM’s role as a publisher of applied research, including through IOM's flagship publication, the World Migration Report, papers published in the journal Migration Policy Practice, and IOM Migration Profiles. The World Migration Report (WMR) has become a trusted and authoritative reference for evidence-based information and analysis on migration. It is frequently cited in media outlets, policy documents and fact-checking articles, and is increasingly used by fact-checkers to verify claims, contextualize migration trends and debunk inaccurate narratives. As the WMR’s visibility and credibility have grown, so too has the demand for practical tools that help professionals address misinformation and disinformation efficiently and effectively. Responding to this need, IOM developed the World Migration Fact-Checkers Toolkit following the release of WMR 2022. Designed as a simple PDF, it offered concise answers to common myths and misleading narratives. However, the information environment has evolved rapidly since its creation. New forms of mis- and disinformation continue to emerge, particularly around the securitization of migration, border control, demographic shifts and labour markets, requiring a more comprehensive, regularly updated and user-friendly tool. IOM is seeking a service provider to reimagine, revamp, expand and assist with developing content which will be used for conceiving a digitalized World Migration Fact-Checkers’ Toolkit, transforming it into a modern, accessible online resource. The revamped toolkit will further address the needs of media professionals, fact-checkers, civil society organizations and the general public by strengthening their access to accurate information, while contributing to more evidence-based public communication on migration. It will also help these audiences to quickly access authoritative, balanced and easy-to-navigate migration evidence, enabling them to effectively counter mis- and disinformation and foster more accurate and constructive public narratives.
