With funding from Japan, UNOPS will respond to the needs of communities in Kharkiv by strengthening the resilience of the health system and population through: ● Repair of the Kharkiv City Hospital basement to enable the safe shelter of 270 hospital staff and patients during air raids; ● Procuring and delivery quality medical equipment and supplies to the Kharkiv City Hospital to support its catchment area of Kharkiv City’s 1.3 million population; and ● Ensuring the provision of life-saving face-to-face Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) to 14,400 of vulnerable civilians (direct beneficiaries) in Kharkiv oblast. Thus through this project, the population of the city of Kharkiv and its respective oblast will have improved access to safe and timely healthcare services, protection of civilians will be enhanced, and strain will be relieved and prevented from Ukraine’s health system. These efforts align with Japan’s Official Development Assistance priorities of human security, leaving no one behind, strengthening national systems, and supporting resilient local institutions through self-reliance.
