UNICEF has now issued a Request for Proposals in order to select a supplier for the provision of Consultancy services to Conduct Implementation Research on iron and folate containing supplements among adolescent girls and pregnant women in 13 districts (Luapula, Northwestern, Eastern & Lusaka) Provinces of Zambia. BRIEF BACKGROUND Purpose: To conduct two-year implementation research on iron and folate containing supplementation among adolescent girls through health system and school platforms and pregnant women through the health system. The implementation research will generate evidence on barriers, facilitators, and contextual factors influencing uptake, coverage, and compliance, assess fidelity to programme design, and provide actionable recommendations during the implementation period to strengthen delivery, equity, and sustainability. Specific Objectives 1. Assess integrated delivery models: To examine how WIFAS for adolescent girls and MMS for pregnant women can be delivered concurrently through routine school-based and health system platforms within the same districts, and to assess operational synergies and constraints. 2. Identify barriers and facilitators: To explore social, structural, behavioural, and health system factors influencing delivery, uptake, and adherence to WIFAS among adolescent girls and MMS among pregnant women. 3. Assess programme fidelity and adaptation: To determine the extent to which both WIFAS and MMS interventions are implemented according to protocol, and to document and analyse any contextual adaptations made during implementation. 4. Examine implementation experiences over time: To capture lessons from formative research and routine monitoring on strategies that enhance coverage, acceptability, and adherence to both interventions. 5. Evaluate equity and inclusiveness: To assess differential access, coverage, and adherence to WIFAS and MMS across geographic, socioeconomic, and demographic groups, including adolescents and pregnant women in rural, hard to reach, and vulnerable populations. 6. Generate scalable recommendations: To provide evidence based, context specific recommendations for improving implementation throughout the pilot period, and informing scaling integrated iron–folate and MMS supplementation through national systems.
