The primary objective of the Rural School Sport Development Programme as an intervention of the UNICEF S4D programme, is to promote physical literacy and impart life skills through a school sport mass participation intervention amongst 12,000 learners from 120 schools. UNICEF thus requires the services of an organisation or institution to implement a sport-for-development programme where they are expected to work with the Department of Basic Education (national, provinces, districts, and circuits) and the relevant sport bodies to set up and manage a sustainable school sport programme in and between 120 schools from 14 clusters/hubs across all 9 provinces of South Africa. Ultimately, the programme should provide participating schools capacity and resources to implement a sport-plus approach to S4D programming within and between the participating schools.
