WHO is seeking for a qualified, eligible and competent proposer for the Capacity Building for Basic Psychological Support for Primary Health Care Workers in HPV Screening and Treatment of Pre-Cancerous Cervical Lesions. Background Cervical cancer remains the second most common cancer affecting women in Cambodia, with an estimated 1,274 new cases and over 670 deaths annually. The Royal Government of Cambodia has adopted the WHO 90-70-90 elimination targets: 90% HPV vaccination coverage, 70% screening coverage, and 90% treatment coverage by 2030. Achieving these targets requires not only strengthening technical screening and treatment capacity, but also enhancing the psychosocial support capabilities of health care workers so they can improve patient acceptance of HPV screening and increase follow-up adherence by helping patients understand their results and the importance of ongoing care throughout the diagnostic and treatment pathway. Psychosocial support for cervical cancer screening involves addressing emotional and psychological barriers such as fear, stigma and anticipated pain, while leveraging positive factors like clear information and family support to improve screening uptake, particularly after abnormal results such as HPV-positive findings, which can trigger significant distress and impede follow-up care. This requires patient education with strong health care provider support to help women manage concerns, make informed decisions, and complete all necessary diagnostic procedures. The purpose of this work will be to work with WHO and the Ministry of Health’s Preventive Medicine Department to develop and deliver comprehensive capacity-building interventions that strengthen basic psychosocial support competencies among primary health care workers providing human papillomavirus (HPV) screening and early treatment of precancerous cervical lesions in Cambodia.
