The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) invites qualified interested firms to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming solicitation for Development, Implementation and Capacity Building of Community-led Social Enterprises in Palk Bay, Tamil Nadu, India. The objective of the project is to develop at least one community-led social enterprise which will be established with the coastal communities within the Palk Bay region, Tamil Nadu, India. The enterprise(s) will focus on sustainable livelihoods tailored to the local context, aiming to diversify income sources, reduce dependency on fragile marine resources, and create a sustainable funding mechanism for coastal and marine ecosystem conservation. By integrating community participation, these enterprises will enhance socio-economic resilience, promote environmental stewardship, and provide long-term benefits to both local communities and the region's biodiversity. Some of the expected outputs are: 1. Conduct community needs assessments to identify viable enterprise opportunities and local resource availability. 2. Develop detailed implementation and business plans for the enterprise. 3. Organize participatory workshops to engage local stakeholders in the decision-making process. 4. Establish at least one community-led social enterprises, tailored to the local economic and ecological contexts. 5. Provide technical and operational support for the initial setup of enterprises, including infrastructure and tools. 6. Develop mechanisms to allocate enterprise-generated funds toward coastal and marine conservation efforts. 7. Identify and establish market linkages to ensure the economic viability of the enterprises. 8. Engage with local authorities and stakeholders to scale successful models and integrate them into broader conservation and development frameworks.
