The ‘Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana’ (GrEEn) is a four-year initiative funded by the European Union and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana and implemented by UNCDF and SNV under the patronage of the Ghanaian Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD) and focused on creating greater economic and employment opportunities for youth, women and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable, green businesses in selected regions (Ashanti and Western The specific objectives of GrEEn are: 1. To support the transition of communities and local economies towards a green and climate-resilient development pathway à Stimulating local economies and creating short-term job opportunities through green, climate-resilient investments (Result 1) 2. To improve the employability and entrepreneurship capabilities of beneficiaries— particularly women, youth and returning migrants—by matching them with market opportunities and mentoring in (self-) employment and enterprise development à Increasing the employability and entrepreneurship capabilities of youth, women returning migrants participating in cash-for work (CfW) scheme (Result 2) 3. To create and strengthen local ecosystems that support youth (self-) employment and the development of MSMEs à Increasing access to and use of financial services, leveraging remittances adapted to the needs of youth, women and returning migrants benefiting from CfW schemes, as well as local communities (Result 3)The programme has supported the transition to green economies, enhanced job and entrepreneurship opportunities for women, youth, and returning migrants, and contributed to creating local ecosystems that support youth development and MSMEs.
