International Labour Organisation CO-Suva Terms of reference Copy editor for publications: Pacific Climate Change, Migration and Human Security Phase II Program Objective The ILO is now seeking a qualified copy editor to provide professional editing to the upcoming series of ILO project related publications that were produced as part of the Pacific Climate Change, Migration and Human Security Phase II Program. Background The PCCMHS Phase II programme contributes to strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity of Pacific Islanders in the context of climate change and disasters, ensuring that migration and relocation remains a choice, and displacement is averted, minimized and addressed. The joint-programme is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), together with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), and the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD). The project has the following outcome, Outcome 1 Governments cooperate at the (Pacific) regional and sub-regional level to manage climate mobility. Outcome 2 Pacific Governments develop and implement national policies to address climate mobility. Outcome 3 Pacific civil society actors, workers’ organizations, employer and business membership organizations, and communities actively engage in national, regional and global processes to manage climate mobility. These outcomes will be achieved by creating an enabling policy environment; contributing to the availability of relevant data and evidence; increasing knowledge and skills of diverse stakeholders based on availability of tools and information; and improving access to services. Scope of assignment The External collaborator will professionally copy-edit a series of publications (approximately 145,000 words 420 pages (see tabular overview below) including references, figures, tables, and appendices) by: Ensuring that the revised and edited final publications, including data tables and charts, fully comply with the general guidelines of the ILO House Style Manual, including attention to references, footnotes, citations, tables, grammar, word spelling, punctuation and acronyms. Developing consistent and coherent language style across all chapters. Working in Microsoft Word using” track changes” to make amendments/changes visible. Upon submitting 180 pages worth of edited publications, to the entire satisfaction of the ILO and no later than 30 June 2025, the ILO will pay the service provider 40%. Upon submitting another 140 pages worth of edited publications, to the entire satisfaction of the ILO and no later than September 2025, the ILO will pay the service provider 40%. Upon submitting 100 pages worth of edited publications, to the entire satisfaction of the ILO and no later than 15 December 2025, the ILO will pay the service provider 20%. All payments are to be made based on actual pages translated. The work provided must not exceed the overall number of pages under this contract without prior approval by the ILO. Payments will be issued only if the activity has been completed, and the ILO Technical Officer has certified that the work has been successfully completed to the satisfaction of the ILO. Required qualifications and experience Prior copy-editing experience Strong research, analytical, and writing skills. Previous working experience with ILO or UN agencies.
