The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched a new Invitation to Bid (ITB) for “Testing of new and/or modified fishing gear along the Turkish coasts for minimizing fuel consumption and seafloor impact”. The primary objective of this initiative is to conduct pilot trials using commercial vessels along the Turkish coast, covering both the Mediterranean and Black Seas. These trials will focus on testing new fishing gear or modifying existing ones, such as utilizing "light" trawl doors, with the aim of reducing fuel consumption and lessening the impact on the seafloor. Companies' registration on the United Nations Global Marketplace portal (UNGM) is a mandatory requirement to participate in this tender as the procurement process is carried out exclusively on the UNGM portal.
