The project is funded by the Partnership Action Fund (PAF) and is based on Sri Lanka’s request for support for updating the “Carbon Net Zero Roadmap and Strategic Plan” to the NDC Partnership. UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) is leading the implementation process. UNEP-CCC has finalized the scope of work in close coordination with the Ministry of Environment to deliver support across several of the requested priority areas. Implementation will be carried out in close coordination with the Climate Change Secretariat, Ministry of Environment, and other relevant technical agencies to ensure alignment with national priorities, existing systems, and regulatory frameworks. With the updating of NDCs 3.0 and the evolving country context post-IMF restructuring recommendations and presidential elections, it is required to revisit the Government of Sri Lanka's LT-LEDS, including the 2050 Carbon Net Zero Strategy and Roadmap, to ensure long-term climate goals are met while also ensuring a just transition. The target beneficiaries of the support provided through this Grant Agreement are the Ministry of Environment and the sectoral working groups supporting the NDCs in Sri Lanka for mitigation. The project implementation will be carried out in close coordination with the Climate Change Secretariat, Ministry of Environment, and other relevant technical agencies to ensure alignment with national priorities, existing systems, and regulatory frameworks. UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) will lead the overall implementation process. The in-country National Partner will handle the local execution and logistics. Engagement: Leading talks with stakeholders and sectoral working groups Logistics: Handling data collection and organising workshops, meetings and forums . Results: Finalising the actual project reports and deliverables. UNEP-CCC will act as the technical architect of the project and be responsible for the following: Design: Creating the project plan and choosing the research methods. Modeling: Setting the GACMO model for greenhouse gas assessments and methods / tools for socio-economic impact assessment. Support: Training the national partner on the tools and methods.
