The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with more than 190 member countries. Since its inception, FAO has worked to improve nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to global economic growth. Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO's efforts – to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. There has been considerable funding flow to agri-tech companies in Africa: according to the State of AgTech Investment in Africa 2024 report, US$1.56 billion was raised in more than 700 deals from over 400 agri-tech companies active in various nodes of the agrifood value chain in the decade between 2014 and 2024. To better inform FAO’s work and that of governments, development agencies, etc., on support to youth agripreneurs and youth-led agribusinesses in Africa, there is a need for greater insight into the above-mentioned trends.
