The WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WHO/WPRO) works with health authorities and partners in 38 countries and areas to promote health, to keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable. Japan has been an active and long-standing supporter of WHO's work in addressing health priorities and challenges both globally and in the Region especially in the following health programmes: Universal Health Coverage (UHC), health emergencies, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), ageing, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and contributing financially and technically to WHO's work in countries. WHO/WPRO also continues to advance and strengthen its partnership with Japan by engaging constructive dialogue and support collaboration between Japan and other Member States through the WHO fellowship programme, study tours and visits. Realizing the value of Japan's advancement in medical practices, model health system, availability of institutions such as laboratories and hospitals and experiences in emergencies, some countries would request WHO to facilitate training programmes or study visits in Japan.
