The project aims to increase the proportion of women and men, among joint project beneficiary households, reporting economic empowerment. Gender dimensions of project outputs include, among others: an increase in the number of women and girls accessing cash transfers, complimentary social services, and grievance mechanisms. Considering the context of the Sahel and the nature of structural vulnerabilities, inequalities, and poverty faced by a large share of the population, social protection interventions prioritise reaching families of children below the age of five, mothers and caregivers to improve equiable outcomes, facilitate human capital strengthening through the promotion of education and employment or income-generating opportunities, and in turn, stem the oftentimes chronic and intergenerational transmission of vulnerability. This Joint Project will incorporate a more intentional focus on integration of gender and inclusivity to enhance more equitable and impactful outcomes for Sahelian households.
