UNDP Viet Nam is looking for 01 qualified consultancy firm/institute/organization to develop ecological zoning maps for key fiber and timber tree species that will support the development of nature-based livelihood models in the Mekong Delta. These maps will guide the identification of suitable areas for tree species growth and inform the design of sustainable agricultural models. The Nature Transition Support Programme (NTSP) is a research initiative funded by the UK’s DEFRA and led by UNEP-WCMC, in collaboration with UNDP, the University of Minnesota, and local partners. Running through November 2025, the programme operates in Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, and Vietnam, aiming to help countries develop roadmaps for transforming their economies to work in harmony with nature. One of the core objectives of the NTSP is to map ecosystem services and assess how these services both support and are affected by the development of specific economic sectors. By integrating biophysical and economic data and applying innovative modeling tools, NTSP provides decision-makers with actionable insights for sustainable development. Inspired by the Dasgupta Review on the Economics of Biodiversity, the programme emphasizes the need for ambitious, coordinated efforts to shift from nature-depleting economic models to systems that prioritize human and environmental well-being.The Mekong Delta is vital to Vietnam’s economy, environment, and society, contributing significantly to national rice, aquaculture, and fruit production. Beyond its economic importance, it supports a rich ecosystem of rivers, wetlands, and mangrove forests that provide essential services like climate regulation and carbon storage. However, the region is under increasing stress from climate change, saltwater intrusion, land erosion, water pollution, and groundwater depletion, all of which threaten the livelihoods of millions—especially vulnerable communities with limited adaptive capacity. The objective of this consultancy is to develop ecological zoning maps for key fiber and timber tree species that will support the development of nature-based livelihood models in the Mekong Delta. These maps will guide the identification of suitable areas for tree species growth and inform the design of sustainable agricultural models. Specific objectives are to: · Assess the current status of the growth and development of targeted native tree species.· Identify and map potential areas with suitable conditions for developing related farming and livelihood models (such as soil-water environment, socio-economic factors, human resources, infrastructure, and local policies).· Provide recommendations on the strategies for integrating the proposed models into local agricultural and land-use planning, aligned with national and provincial development priorities, including Resolution 120/NQ-CP on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta.
